I may not be adding any original compliment but if I am starting a book blog, let my first post be about a book I fucking love.
What it’s about:
The story of misfit high-school girl, Carrie White, who gradually discovers that she has telekinetic powers. Repressed by a domineering, ultra-religious mother and tormented by her peers at school, her efforts to fit in lead to a dramatic confrontation during the senior prom.

My thoughts:
Horror, yes, but sweet fucking revenge. I hated Carrie’s religious and control-freak of a mother, and I felt every slight and insult Carrie was heaped with at school.
That menstrual scene: my God (whether there is a God or not), I completely forgot that this was written by a man. How in the blue fuck did he envision something like that in a girls’ locker room?
All that hatred, that humiliation, and all that blood…
It almost killed me that such humiliation was endured by someone with such powers… all that was almost worth it in the final scene. Revenge. Sweet, glorious, beautiful, intense, fucking orgasmic revenge!
I love it. I worship it.
If you have even just one nerve ending in you, you can’t not feel and admire this book.
This is 10 stars out of a 5 star scale.

I liked this book. It wasn’t the scariest book I read (not by a stretch) but it filled me with loathing for all the people who did Carrie wrong and I wanted them to be punished (her mom was a total nightmare of a parent!). Even so, I didn’t want the end to be so violent, but I’ll agree that it was quite gratifying.
Having said that, I must say that you’re quite generous with your 5 stars 😛
generous with my 5 stars? i’m starting with books that i love, so ya they tend to be 5-star reads.

Read Firerstarter. It’s not nearly as good as Carrie, not by a longshot, but Charlie is almost an alternate universe version of Carrie — if Carrie was raised by somewhat normal parents.

+1 everything you say about Carrie. It is a major American novel, I reckon. Stephen King was a high school teacher so he got an insight into teenage girls. Carrie was his first published novel. I also liked Firestarter, those early works – Dead Zone was a goodie.
